Thousands Apply to Adopt a Boy in Foster Care After Heartbreaking Video of Him Wishing for a Family

For many children in foster care, finding a forever family is a moment they long await. The story is the same for Jordan, a 9-year-old boy who currently lives in a group home.
When local Oklahoma news station KFOR asked Jordan what he would ask for if he was granted three wishes, he said, “to have a family, and a family, family. Those are the only wishes I have.”
After Jordan’s heartbreaking wish went viral, calls began flooding in from New Jersey, Florida, Illinois and more. Over 5,000 families have submitted adoption inquiries and now Christopher Marlowe, Jordan’s Permanency Planning Worker, has the honor of processing each interest and finding the perfect home for the young boy.
“We’ve had a couple of families that expressed interest in adoption but after we did disclosures, the families decided that it wasn’t the right fit for them or their family at this time, so we’ve had some difficulty finding placement for him,” Marlowe said.
According to KFOR, this can be the case for many children who have a form of behavioral health or physical needs. However, with a plethora of inquiries at the ready, Jordan is excitedly awaiting the possibility of having a place to call home.
“The reason it’s important,” Jordan said about finding a family. “So I could have some people to talk to anytime I need to… I hope one of y’all pick me.”
Jordan was separated from his brother last year when the younger sibling was adopted. The adoptive family has agreed to support the brothers’ connection and are willing to take them out with day passes to different events, Marlowe explained.
“I would just like to have a family to call mom and dad, or just mom, or just dad,” he said. “I don’t really care.”
